Carbon/maple hybrid delivers the warmth of wood and clarity of graphite.
Nothing looks, sounds or performs like a Steinberger bass guitar, and the Synapse line is no exception. The Synapse XS-15FPA is a Hybrid 5-string bass guitar that combines the rigidity, strength, clarity and definition of graphite with the warmth and beauty of wood. The result is a bass guitar of unparalleled performance. As with every Steinberger instrument, comfort and playability are a given. The Synapse XS-15FPA 5-String, with its headless design, back body curve and patented strap extension system, is well balanced and is extremely comfortable. A single low-Z EMG USA pickup positioned at the sweet-spot combined with an Ebony piezo-equipped saddle and CybroSonic Technology makes the Synapse one of the best sounding basses Steinberger has ever made. The Synapse bass features the patented 40:1 Direct-Drive Double-Ball Bridge that enables you to tune it up once and you won't have to tune it again until you change the strings. This system also provides micrometer precision and stability, and this revolutionary advance over traditional tuning methods allows string changes in seconds with no winding or cutting. Just insert the ball ends and tune it up. It has low-impedance EMG USA bass pickups that reproduce an extended range cleanly, both higher and lower, and taxes the abilities of conventional pickups while slap-style playing creates transients of incredible magnitude and unusual harmonic patterns. The EMG-40P5 made in the USA bass pickup addresses all these issues. Featuring a low-impedance internal preamp, the XS-15FPA bass delivers crisp, clean, and even tone from your low B string to the top of the neck. Its Custom Active Electronics were developed in cooperation with EMG, and this bass combines EMG-81 and EMG-85 Low-Z pickups with an active EQ system only available on Synapse guitars. The results are clean, warm and powerful sound with full band frequency response that compliments the natural brilliance and clarity of the Synapse. Controls include Master Volume, Magnetic/Piezo blend with detent, Hi-EQ boost/cut and 3-position pickup selector. The electric bass guitar also has three internal trim pots that allow the adjustment of the output of the piezo high strings, the piezo low strings and the magnetic pickup. The Combo Headpiece has the functional advantage of Steinberger's headless concept, which dramatically improves balance, ease of tuning and tuning stability. The XS-15FPA also features the patented Double-Ball tunning system that allows string changes in seconds. The Combo Headpiece accommodates both Double-Ball and Single-Ball strings. Its Phenolic Fingerboard is much harder and more durable than wood, this ultra-composite material works in conjunction with Steinbergers CybroSonic technology to give this bass consistent feel and sustain as well as brilliant harmonics with no dead spots. Each note seems to jump off the fingerboard for that dynamic live quality that identifies the Steinberger sound. It also features the patented Strap Hook that allows the Synapse to hang in the optimum position on your body while maintaining great balance. It also has a Recessed Tool Holder that is conveniently located under the bridge, and it keeps the necessary tools with your Synapse and always within reach. Another great feature on the XS-15FPA bass is the Recessed Output Jack, which conveniently tucks your guitar cable out of the way if your performance and out of sight of your audience. Another patented Steinberger innovation is the Fold-Down Leg Rest. It is only 1/4" thick when folded, the permanently attached leg rest snaps out instantly to provide exceptional comfort and balance when playing your Synapse bass in the seated position. The Zero-Fret allows for use of varied string gauges because there is no nut slot to widen. Action at the 1st fret and beyond is more consistent and improved as well. By using the Zero-Fret instead of a traditional nut, intonation is improved.
